I just wanted to thank Mark Buckshon (@CMIblog) of the Construction Marketing Ideas blog for the kind nomination to his 2012 Best Construction Blog list. I am honored to be a part of the list and hope that my loyal readers will come out an vote for Construction Law Musings (you can vote at the link above).

If you don’t vote for me, you can check out the blogs and links listed there (including friends of Musings @matthandal and @melissabrumback among others). Each of those listed provides a great insight into different aspects of construction, from law to marketing. Even if you don’t vote (and I hope that you will), read some of these blogs, you will certainly learn something.

AGC-VA Leadership Development Forum

I have posted here about the AGC and how much it can help those in the construction industry. For example, the Green Building Round Table that I posted about a little while back. Another benefit of membership in the AGC in Virginia that is helpful to those in the industry is the Leadership Development Forum (“LDF”), a limited membership training and networking section for those who are in the next wave of leadership at construction companies in Virginia. For instance, one of the exclusive training programs put on for members of the leadership development forum is a “Lunch and Learn” on Risk Management and Financial Management of construction companies.

I will be a member of the panel along with some good friends who are very knowledgeable in these aspects of the industry. For more on the panel, check out the flyer below.

While this seminar will only be for members of the LDF, check out the AGC-VA website for some of the other great benefits of membership and to get contact information on joining the LDF and the AGC.

Thanks from Construction Law Musings for the Legal Elite 2011 Nod

Recently, Virginia Business Magazine announced its 2011 Legal Elite. The magazine received 1,483 completed ballots nominating nearly 3,900 lawyers. Of that number, 811 attorneys, roughly 20 percent, made the cut for the Legal Elite. The number of nominees and honorees on the list is higher than previous years because of the addition of a new category, Appellate Law. I am proud to announce that my peers here in Virginia have named me once again to the Legal Elite in the Construction category. This makes for a run from 2007 through 2011 of being given this honor.

Among those also named to the Legal Elite in Construction are good friends and fellow construction attorneys John Owen, Tim Hughes (@timrhughes), Brett Marston and Greg St. Ours (these last two are fellow members of the VSB Construction and Public Contracts Section Board). Congratulations to all of you who have been named top construction attorneys in Virginia and to those named in the other categories as tops in their fields of practice. The list includes some great attorneys so I encourage you to look it over.

So, without further ado, thank you from me, Construction Law Musings, and The Law Office of Christopher G. Hill, PC to all of you who tossed my name into the ring and congratulations to all of my friends and colleagues who are named to the Virginia Business Legal Elite for 2011.

Here’s wishing all of you that read Construction Law Musings a wonderful and family filled Thanksgiving. As I sit here almost a year and a half into my solo construction practice I have much to be thankful for.

First and foremost, I am thankful for my wonderful family. Without the loving support of my wife and kids, my practice could not be as successful as it is or the transition to solo practice as smooth as it was. Thanks to all four of you for the wonderful support and assistance during the transition.

Thank you to all of the readers that make this construction law blog such a worthwhile enterprise. To those that read, comment, and guest post, thank you for your readership and contributions. Without the readers and other contributors, Construction Law Musings would not be the great place to write that it is. You all make this small corner of the internet a much more interesting and enlightening place.
