Musings on a Great Construction Law Weekend

This past weekend, I attended the Virginia State Bar’s Construction Law and Public Contracts Section board meeting and CLE.  As with every year I attend this great event, I both learned something new and got to know or catch up with some good people and great construction attorneys here in Virginia.

My weekend started with my first fall Board of Governors meeting and dinner.  I got to meet some folks whom I knew of but hadn’t met in person as well as some old friends and past chairs of the section.  This fun evening was followed by a program/CLE relating to troubled projects from numerous perspectives.

The program was informative and timely given the state of the construction economy and the fact that so many construction projects are troubled or have a high potential for trouble.

Friday night was another networking time and dinner with the board and many of the speakers from the program.  These types of networking opportunities are what makes this event such a good one.  Meeting and sharing ideas and “war stories” with other construction lawyers from around the Commonwealth is always a learning experience. Saturday, the program came to a close around noon and I was back to Richmond.

One thing that amazed me was the number of these lawyers that I respect who recognized this construction law blog.  While some of the readership statistics show that I have readers, to hear that in person is always a good feeling.  I am always humbled to know that colleagues and friends I respect are among the readers of Musings. Thanks to all of you who I met this weekend and took the time to let me know that you read Construction Law Musings.  This makes me feel the endeavor is worthwhile.  If any of you would like to guest post, I’d love to have you.

In short, the weekend was a great one and I encourage any construction attorney in the Commonwealth of Virginia to join the section and attend this event in 2012.

  1. Chris: It was a pleasure meeting you this weekend at the Boar’s Head on Friday night. I have read your blog for at least a few years now and always find it reliable, informative and an important source to catch up on when I’ve been in trial mode and fall behind on industry news. Thanks for the blog – keep up the excellent work! Lauren McLaughlin

  2. Thanks for reading. Hard to believe I’ve been blogging for close to 3 years now. I enjoyed your presentation on bonding and bond claims. Let me know if you would like to lend that expertise to a guest post.
