Attention- New I-9 Form Now in Effect

One of the big issues in construction today is, and will remain, immigration and the legal status of construction workers. For this reason, each change in the I-9 employment eligibility verification form is a big deal.

The major points to consider relating to this change are: 1. Failure to use the revised form could result in civil monetary penalties or sanctions and 2. The types of documents used for the verifications have changed. The Midwest Construction Law blog has a great summary of the changes and their ramifications. Also, you can check out the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (“USCIS”) “Handbook for Employers- Instructions For Completing Form I-9
