On this date back in 2008 (wow, that seems so long ago), I began Construction Law Musings on the Blogger platform with a brief announcement. Little did I know that this corner of the internet (or is it Blawgosphere?) would still be around in 2023!
In the time since I made that short entry 15 years ago (I know, I can’t believe it either), I’ve met several construction lawyers here in Virginia who refer to me as the “blog guy.” To be recognized for the work I do here at Construction Law Musings, something that benefits me (and I hope the readers), and which I do for the fun of it, is an honor.
The blog has since taken on a life of its own in many respects, allowing me to meet some of the great construction pros who have provided a guest post or two for Musings and added their different perspectives. Musings also kept me up on at least most of the trends in Virginia construction law by making me post consistently (though sometimes less consistently than others). Now, over 950 (?!?) posts and 15 years later, I find it hard to believe that so much time has passed and effort has been put into what started on a whim and the plan that I’d post thoughts on the legal landscape and construction from the perspective of a Virginia construction lawyer.
Since the beginning of this blogging journey, my kids have grown so much! I now have a junior at N. C. State and two graduates. My oldest is now happily married and my second oldest is engaged with a wedding this summer. Watching these great individuals grow up has been a joy. Our four-legged family member (a Golden Retriever) continues to add a layer of fur and snuggles to the Hill household. Saving the very best for last, my wonderful, supportive, and beautiful wife continues to make life at the Hill house a great place to live. Without the support of the world’s best family, Musings and the practice of law wouldn’t be the fun and fulfilling journey that it is.
On the professional side, I was named for the 17th straight year (and all 13 years as a solo) to the Virginia Business Legal Elite in Construction Law. I was also named for the 7th straight year to the Virginia Super Lawyers in the Construction Litigation Category (thanks). I continued as a member of the Virginia Bar Association Construction and Public Contracts Law Section Council and am currently the Secretary and on tap to be Vice-Chair of that great group of lawyers. I also continue to grow my arbitration and mediation practices. Finally, I made a move this past August to a new office location that fits my law practice well.
So without further ado, thanks to all of you who read Construction Law Musings. Thank you to all of my friends, clients, and colleagues who support this construction law blog and my construction law practice (you know who you are and it would take weeks to list you all). And, most importantly, thank you to my great family for all that you do to support me in my solo career and my life in general. You all have made the last 15 years of Construction Law Musings a fun and rewarding ride.
As always, I welcome your comments below. Please subscribe to keep up with this and other Construction Law Musings.
