Since the firm’s last anniversary, my youngest child (who was 7 when this journey began!) started and completed her sophomore year at N. C. State University, my second oldest is a successful car salesman in Boone, NC and my oldest has bought a home, adopted an adorable golden retriever puppy, and celebrated her second marriage anniversary. The first half of 2023 has at least been more normal, meaning lots of construction law representation and a new case or two, along with a few tweaks to the construction law statutory landscape. I have also continued to grow my ADR practice, including arbitration and mediation.
Professionally, I’ve had a great year. I am serving as the Secretary of the Section Council of the Virginia Bar Association Construction and Public Contracts Law section. I was also honored to be nominated and elected to the Virginia Legal Elite in Construction Law for the 16th straight year and to the Virginia Super Lawyers in Construction Litigation for the 7th year running. I also continued to have the opportunity to teach in various construction-related venues on relevant topics and to help out some of the best clients around.
All in all the 13th year as a solo construction attorney has been as good as I could have hoped. Thank you again to the clients, friends, and particularly family that have made the last 13 years of solo practice fulfilling and fun.
