This past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the 38th Annual Construction and Public Contracts Law Seminar at the Boar’s Head in in Charlottesville, Virginia.  It seems like not that long ago I was going to my first of these in 2008! This year, like last, I had a great time planning the seminar and in the process meeting many of the great speakers that provided their insights into topics from gun safety at the workplace to employment facts every contractor should know to the basics of performance bonds.  All in all, this “grab bag” of topics seemed to provide something for everyone, whether an experienced construction attorney or someone new to construction law. Last week I had the pleasure of attending the 37th Annual Construction and Public Contracts Law seminar and conference in Charlottesville, Virginia.  This year’s theme was construction contracts and as always the speakers and the company knocked it out of the park.  This year was particularly satisfying because I was one of the co-chairs of the committee that planned the program.  Thank you to all of the speakers and my co-chair Alison Mullins (not to mention the staff at Virginia CLE) for making the planning of this great event as easy as I could have hoped. Just this past weekend, I attended the 36th Annual Construction and Public Contracts seminar jointly held by the Construction and Public Contracts section of the Virginia State Bar and Virginia CLE in Charlottesville, VA.  As always, I caught up with some old friends, met some new ones and, of course, learned something. As a member of the Board of Governors for the Construction Law and Public Contracts Section of the Virginia State Bar, I have the privilege of attending (and occasionally speaking at) the Construction and Public Contracts Law Seminar in Charlottesville, Virginia every year.  Even if I weren’t a member of the Board, I would attend this seminar and hope that you attend as well.

This year’s topics include among other great topics of interest advanced issues with Virginia mechanic’s liens, examination of construction experts, and of course legal ethics (2 hours) and the great annual case law update that always alerts me and others to cases that affect the world of construction law.  Aside from the great learning opportunity the seminar provides, you will get a great chance to meet with other Virginia construction attorneys, pick their brains (I know I do) and network.  Add to this the full year of CLE credit that you will get for attending, and it is all around worth the trip.

If you are attending this year, look me up, I look forward to seeing you in Charlottesville.  If you aren’t signed up yet, take a last minute chance to do so, you’ll be glad you did.

As always, I welcome your comments below.  Please subscribe to keep up with this and other Construction Law Musings.
