Thoughts on construction law from Christopher G. Hill, Virginia construction lawyer, LEED AP, mediator, and member of the Virginia Legal Elite in Construction Law

A Great Time at the 45th Annual Construction Law Seminar

45th Annual Construction and Public Contracts Law SeminarI have written about the Virginia State Bar’s annual construction law conference on numerous occasions here at Construction Law Musings.  I have been attending and/or speaking at these conferences for many years and I always learn something about areas of law that I thought I knew.  The topics this year ranged from my old favorite, mechanic’s liens, to construction contract negotiation, to teaming agreements, and more.  All of these topics were ably presented by a variety of colleagues and friends knowledgeable in Virginia construction law.

Even more than the great information, and the full boat of CLE Credit (including ethics) that I get from attendance, it is the continued relationships and new friends that I meet every year that make in-person attendance at this event so valuable.  As my career as a construction attorney here in the Commonwealth of Virginia continues and I move from new/young lawyer to older/mentor lawyer these relationships, both new and old, are what make my construction law practice so fulfilling.

Whether it’s a chance for me as a solo attorney to bounce ideas or questions off of my more than-capable colleagues, the ability to just hang out, or (hopefully) to impart a bit of wisdom on a young up-and-coming attorney, every interaction at this seminar is one that I learn from and enjoy.  Thanks to all who said “hi” and took the time to chat.

So here’s the inevitable plug.  If you are interested in construction law and are a Virginia lawyer, I highly recommend that you attend this conference.  You’ll be glad you did.
